The Spring Equinox and Easter

The quarter festival of the Spring Equinox marks the turning of the inner tides across the point of equilibrium of equal day and equal night. Here, as the Sun enters its sign of exhaultation in Aries we experience the return of the power of the light. Now we have entered the tide of increasing light and growth - a time of expansion, of optimism and forward vision. The seeds that we planted in the heart of the quiet darkness of the midwinter are now germinating and the process that will bring their energy and form into the world is accelerating. The covering of yellow flowers - the daffodils and marsh marigolds - that carpet the gardens and woodlands at this time reflect this returning solar glory as the earth celebrates and honours the renewing of the power and light of the Sun and the Goddess Eostre brings the land to life. It is this mystery of renewal and rebirth which lies at the heart of the festival of Easter and its symbol, the egg. We can take time now to invite the unfolding of our hopes and wishes for the season ahead, to make future plans and work to bring into being our visions and dreams for the year which is opening up before us.

Cycles of the Heavens

June - Gemini

As the Sun enters Gemini, on 21st May, the mythic landscape of the year shifts from the grounded and sensual embodiment of the Bull, into the light and sparkling clarity of the sign of the Twins. Here this mutable air sign lifts us up to the lofty heights of the realm of abstract mind. Drawn to the multiplicity and myriad expression of forms, we embrace ideas, gather information, and delight in communication. To move in this dimension is to joy in making connections, and linking ideas and people in a web of connectivity, for as we pass through this terrain we discover and celebrate the magnificent diversity of life. Ruled by Mercury, the speed and movement of the mind runs like quicksilver, as our attention travels through the universe. Enthralled by that which is new, we are drawn to fresh experiences, attracted by and excited by that which arrives in our field of awareness. Yet from these lofty and bright heights we are also aware of shadows. The dark twin is always a reflection of our brightness, for without an awareness of the depths we remain superficial, playing on the surface of life. The twin pillars of the sign remind us of our connection to the depths - our ability to connect outer with inner. In this abstract realm we love to create and explore patterns, yet at a profound level our journey here offers us an opportunity to connect together the disparate parts of the universe without and within.
